Duke Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplantation

Under the direction of Joanne Kurtzberg, M.D., the program has  performed approximately 1200 autologous and allogeneic transplants in children with cancer or genetic diseases since 1990.
The program provides transplant as a treatment option for a variety of acquired and congenital disorders of children and young adults including hematopoietic malignancies and solid tumors, inherited immune deficiency syndromes, bone marrow failure syndromes, and inherited metabolic diseases.

Cardiac Study Nortwestern University

Results of clinical dtudy for cardiac disease using blood derived autologous stem cells.
Phase II, double-blind trial, subjects’ own purified CD34+ stem cells,were injected into their hearts in an effort to spur the growth of small blood vessels that make up the microcirculation of the heart muscle. The cells were injected into 10 locations in the heart muscle. The study was supported by Baxter Healthcare Corporation.
